Wall balls are the great equalizer in a HYROX race. They test your legs, your lungs, and your patience all at once. Today we're rehearsing exactly that feeling in a short, sharp session.

Today's Session — WALL BALLS: BREAK EARLY

  • 3 rounds: 25 wall balls (think full squat, then throw to a target)
  • Take 5 deep breaths between each round.
  • Finish each round with a pace you'd use post-run in a race.

How this format works

BREAK EARLY means you plan your rest before fatigue forces it on you. For this workout, you'll complete 3 rounds of 25 wall balls, resting only 5 deep breaths between rounds. Inside each round, pick a break point in advance rather than pushing to failure, something like 15/10 or 10/10/5. The goal is to keep every set crisp and every catch clean, finishing each round at the pace you'd hold on race day after coming off a run.

How to attack it

Most athletes blow up between rep 15 and 20 when the legs stop driving and the throw gets short. Planning a small break at rep 15 keeps the target consistent and shortens your total time on the wall. Breathe out on the throw, breathe in on the catch, and use your 5 breaths between rounds to reset posture, not just recover. Treat round 3 like the back half of a race station: controlled, honest, no hero unbroken attempts.

Scale it

Newer to this: Drop to 3 rounds of 15 reps with a lighter ball, or use a lower target height to keep the throw sharp. If the full squat is limiting, work to a box or bench to groove the depth, then stand and throw.

Want more: Push for unbroken sets of 25, or add a fourth round at race pace. To raise the demand, cut rest to 3 deep breaths between rounds or add a 100m run before each set of wall balls.
